The tensional relation between China and Europe, later also between China and the USA, developed like a pendulum between phases of mutual admiration, inspiration and idealization and phases of decoupling and competition. Phases of cooperation were mostly win-win situations in all fields like economy, culture, politics, sports, internationalization, globalization etc. High civilizations overcome violent confrontation with reason and insight. Contemporary political tensions become smaller if seen in front of the macroperspective of economical, civilizational and intellectual development and global modernization. In times of polarization and political tensions like today, Chinese Studies needs to stand like a rock in the surf and to keep its independence, it must keep the fact based view open and serve with learned competence and insights, with the ability to change the perspective and to see the whole picture. It must withstand political recapture. This kind of exchange, cooperation and integration that we live as Chinese Studies scholars is existential for the development of mankind, which needs to meet the global challenges in a united future.
This paper examines the trajectory of Tungusological and „Palaeo-Siberian" studies in contemporary China. While China boasts a rich tradition of research in Altaic studies, with a focus on Turkish, Mongolian, and Tungusic, this study sheds light on the less-explored domains of Tungusological studies and „Palaeo-Siberian" research. Tracing the historical backdrop, it discusses early engagements with Altaic languages during periods of Altaic dynastic rule and the contemporary significance of Altaic and „Palaeo-Siberian" peoples, especially against the backdrop of China's identification as a „Near Arctic country." The paper further explores the evolution of Tungusological research in China, highlighting key scholars, and delves into recent developments, emphasizing the shift from linguistic studies to broader interdisciplinary inquiries encompassing folklore, cultural, and ecological dimensions. The establishment of the Arctic Studies Center at Liaocheng University signals a new phase, demonstrating China's increasing interest in Arctic affairs and its potential as a research hub for Tungusological and „Palaeo-Siberian" studies.
Many discussions are ongoing among Iranian people regarding the 25-year Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Iran and China, which was signed in March 2021. However, there have been noticeably few reflections and discussions concerning ordinary Iranian people's thoughts on this agreement among relevant papers or even on social media. Furthermore, many disagreements exist among people in Iran about the deal and protests have even been held against it, which have also not been discussed. Thus, this article discusses Iranians' concerns over this agreement from the points of view of culture and language. Through Observation and comparative methods, I examine a synonym for a special type of agreement (文契 wénqì) in the Chinese language and discuss how this word was used in the novel „The Dream of the Red Chamber." I use this word to elaborate the perspective of Iranians who disagree with the deal. This article sets itself apart from other articles about the Iran–China agreement by discussing it from a cultural and linguistic perspective. I also provide a brief landscape of Iran–China relations and name some of the agreement's opponents' reasons. As a conclusion, it is strongly recommended to consider people's view and cultural backgrounds for resisting any further complications, and building up a relation in which both nations would equally profit.
The distinction between inter-, multi- and transcultural communication is applied to a specific study. It is about the mental state of Chinese students in Germany. Initial results are also examined from the perspective of ambivalence, ambiguity and juxtaposition. Finally, these three behavioural and communication dimensions are discussed from a Chinese cultural perspective.
In the 21st century, along with China's economic rise, and the proposed and expanded Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), China's role in the international community has become increasingly visible. On March 26, 2023, Honduras and China formally established diplomatic relations, again putting China-Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) relations in the spotlight. We aim to identify China's role in LAC via the BRI's economic impact on LAC from 2015 to 2022. We first divided the 33 LAC countries into two parts, those 21 countries participating in China's BRI and those 12 not participating in the BRI. Next, we split the timeline into two periods, before and after the implementation of the BRI. Taken together, we evaluate the implementation of agreements and examine the economic consequence of these two parts before and after the implementation of the BRI by means of three indicators: annual growth rate of GDP per capita, annual growth rate of manufacturing value added, and annual growth rate of industry value added. We approach a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to reveal a new and dynamic relationship between China-LAC, typical evidence of South-South cooperation, and the implications of the BRI in LAC. We contribute to scholarly and policy areas, multinational corporations, and investors.
